Mountain Maple, known for having the highest sound vibration among trees, is why it's used in crafting remarkable musical instruments.
We chose Mountain Maple for many reasons, but the most obvious is its resilience, density, beauty, and color.
Mountain Maple - conveying emotions through material
Beyond these mostly technical aspects, Mountain Maple is what manages to convey our inner energy the most.
Anyone who has come into contact with our toys has noticed how much emotion a piece of carved and meticulously painted wood can convey.
What makes Mountain Maple so special is also its natural sheen.
This gloss is due to the medullary rays, those channels that connect the wood's heartwood to its bark.
When the wood is cut, mirrors are formed.
If the cut is radial, these mirrors are very visible.
That's why we consider Mountain Maple the only wood whose defects are actually qualities.
Traditional Romanian toys made in our workshop smile at the touch of the non-toxic colors we use, most likely thanks to this wood, which bears shades from creamy white to soft yellow.
It is by far the easiest wood species to color of all.
It is also one of the most valuable hardwood species.
As it is a very elastic and resistant wood, it is the preferred species for the backs of violins, hence the nickname "Singing Maple."
Romanian Mythology and Mountain Maple
Although Mountain Maple is not among the mythical trees of our cultural sphere, it is not completely devoid of spiritual significance.
In folk tradition, it is said that when Stephen the Great (an emblematic figurine for BumbuToys) decided to choose the place where the Putna Monastery would be erected, he shot an arrow from a mountain peak, and where the arrow fell, the holy place was built.
"[...] Stefan takes out the bow and shoots, but the arrow implanted itself there, in the forest. Immediately, they went in search of the place where it was implanted. After a long search, they find it implanted in an old maple tree."
This year marked 550 years since the consecration of the Putna Monastery, where a fragment of the maple tree located at the place where the monastery's altar was built is still preserved.
Durable for centuries
It's interesting to note that there are over 150 types of maples worldwide, and its lifespan is over 300 years.
Therefore, our Mountain Maple wooden toys will serve as companions and nostalgic memories for many generations of children.
We invite you to give your children the opportunity to have memorable toys, laden with feelings, which over the years will evoke warm nostalgia.
